Bleached and saponified Punic wax in granular form, for hot encaustic painting
An ancient and prized painting medium derived from the chemical treatment of virgin beeswax. It is renowned as the essential ingredient in encaustic painting—a technique used in the Roman era (as seen in the famous Fayum mummy portraits or the frescoes of Pompeii).
A product handcrafted in Italy by an artist who paints using the encaustic technique.
The product has been tested and carefully prepared according to ancient methods.
USAGE:
Always weigh the wax before melting it, then add an equal weight (a 1:1 ratio) of pigment (use less pigment if you desire lower opacity). To extend the working time before the paint dries (similar to egg tempera), add demineralized warm water (at 50–55°C) in a 2:1 ratio relative to the weight of the wax; alternatively, linseed oil may be used (though water is preferable). The wax is water-miscible.
100 grams of the medium is sufficient to apply approximately 4–5 layers of paint, enough for about four 35x45 cm icons.
If adding oil, keep in mind the "fat over lean" rule: each subsequent layer must contain more oil (i.e., be "fatter") than the one beneath it. To heat the wax, use a magnetic stirrer or a hot plate covered with a piece of aluminum, while monitoring the temperature and keeping it constant at approximately 40–45°C.

I ordered several wooden boards to paint icons. Upon delivery, half of them showed scratches on the surface to be painted or saw marks on the side. The wooden boards are made without the care necessary for the production of works of art. Dal Molin has not had any hearing for my request for replacement of the unusable art supply nor for a refund saying that "these details have no importance". I do not recommend this business.
