Madder Lake, genuine (Rubia Tinctorum), Italian pigment
Authentic Madder Lake Pigment (Red) is prepared by extracting the color from madder (Rubia tinctorum, also called Garanza). This is a plant whose root contains a certain number of red coloring principles. The color extracted from madder has the highest stability among those of vegetal origin: the lakes prepared from this root have been used for centuries by painters also because of their beauty.
Use: In the fine arts especially for the preparation of watercolors and tempera. Also suitable for use in oil painting, in particular for glazes.
